Giorgio Orelli

Giorgio Orelli (born May 25, 1921 – died November 10, 2013) was a famous Swiss poet, writer, and translator. He wrote in Italian.

He was born in Airolo, a town in the Ticino region of Switzerland. Giorgio Orelli studied at the University of Fribourg. There, he learned from Gianfranco Contini, a well-known expert in languages and literature. Later, Orelli taught Italian Literature in Bellinzona.

Giorgio Orelli was a modern poet. He was known for his realistic and thoughtful writing style. Some people called him the "Tuscan from Ticino." He also translated works by famous writers like Goethe. Orelli wrote for different literary magazines too. His cousin Giovanni Orelli was also a writer and poet. His niece, Michela Figini, became a famous alpine skier.

Giorgio Orelli passed away in Bellinzona in 2013.
