Glen Aulin High Sierra Camp is a special place to stay in Yosemite National Park in California. It's one of six "High Sierra Camps" found in the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains.
This camp is located right next to the Tuolumne River in an area called Glen Aulin. It sits high up, about 7,800 feet (2,377 meters) above sea level. These camps are only open during the summer months. Sometimes, if there's too much snow, they might not open at all. To stay here, you need to make reservations and get special permits from the National Park Service.
How to Stay at Glen Aulin
Getting a spot at Glen Aulin High Sierra Camp is quite popular! People usually enter a special lottery once a year to get a reservation. If you win, you get to stay in comfy tent cabins. These reservations also include a tasty breakfast and dinner served community-style.
There are also a few "meals-only" spots available each day. If you get one of these, you bring your own tent and camp in a nearby "backpacker" area. But you still get to enjoy meals with everyone staying in the tent cabins! It's sometimes possible to get last-minute reservations if you call after the lottery is over.
Exploring the Wilderness: Permits
If you want to camp overnight in most of Yosemite National Park, you need a special wilderness permit. About 95% of Yosemite is considered wilderness, meaning it's kept wild and natural.
You can get these wilderness permits and then camp in special "backpacker" areas. These areas are usually right next to the High Sierra Camps. This way, you can explore the beautiful lakes and rivers. You can also enjoy the friendly atmosphere of the camps, even if you don't have a reservation to stay in a tent cabin.
It's usually easier to get wilderness permits than camp reservations. You can often get them up to 26 weeks in advance by mail, phone, or online.
