Glenbrook is a small community in Nevada, United States. It is located on the east side of Lake Tahoe in Douglas County. In 2020, about 315 people lived there.

Glenbrook is known for its beautiful lake views. The beach and bay areas are private. Only people who live or rent homes in Glenbrook's gated community can use them. The community got its name from an old hotel called "Glenbrook House." This hotel was named after a valley (glen) and a small stream (brook) nearby.

History of Glenbrook

Glenbrook is the oldest settlement around Lake Tahoe. It played a very important role when Nevada became a state. The town supplied a lot of wood for the Comstock Lode and Virginia City. These were famous mining towns.

The first settlers arrived in the valley in 1860. One of them, Captain Augustus W. Pray, built a sawmill in 1861. Sawmills cut down trees into lumber. Logs were floated down streams or carried by boats to the mills in Glenbrook.

By 1875, Glenbrook was a busy town. It had four sawmills, a store, a bowling alley, a billiard hall, and two hotels. However, after 1880, there was less logging work. The logging industry eventually stopped by the end of the century.
