Glendo State Park is a fantastic outdoor playground in Wyoming, United States. It's a public recreation area built around the large Glendo Reservoir. This reservoir is part of the North Platte River. The park is located near the town of Glendo. It's about 20 miles southeast of the city of Douglas.
This state park offers lots of fun activities for everyone. You can explore over 45 miles of exciting mountain bike trails. There are also many camping areas with more than 500 campsites. The reservoir is perfect for fishing and other water sports. It's even known for producing some really big fish! The park is looked after by the Wyoming Division of State Parks and Historic Sites.
How Glendo Park Started
The Glendo Dam, a power plant, and the reservoir were all built between 1954 and 1958. This was a big project! In June 1959, the Wyoming Parks Commission made an agreement. They teamed up with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. This agreement allowed them to manage and create fun places for people to visit at Glendo Reservoir. That's how Glendo State Park was born!
A Special Solar Eclipse Moment
Something really cool happened at Glendo State Park on Monday, August 21, 2017. A total solar eclipse passed right over the park! This means the Moon completely blocked out the Sun, making it dark in the middle of the day. The darkest part of the eclipse happened at 11:46 a.m. local time. The sky stayed dark for 2 minutes and 28 seconds. It was an amazing sight for everyone who was there!
