Glenn E. "Smiles" Mosley (born December 26, 1955) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He played for teams like the Philadelphia 76ers and San Antonio Spurs in the National Basketball Association (NBA). After his time in the NBA, Mosley played basketball in other countries. He played in Italy, France, and Argentina.
College Basketball Star
Mosley grew up in Newark, New Jersey. He played college basketball at Seton Hall University. This university is in South Orange, which is close to Newark. He played for the Pirates from 1973 to 1977. During his college career, he scored 1,441 points. He also grabbed 1,263 rebounds.
Mosley was an amazing rebounder. He averaged 15.2 rebounds per game throughout his college career. This is one of the highest averages ever in the NCAA. In his final year, he averaged 16.3 rebounds per game. This led all players in NCAA Division I. His jersey number, 34, was later retired by Seton Hall. This is a special honor for great players.
Playing in the NBA
After his successful college career, Glenn Mosley was chosen in the 1977 NBA draft. The Philadelphia 76ers picked him in the first round. He was the 20th player chosen overall.
Mosley played in the NBA for two seasons. He played for the Philadelphia 76ers in 1977. Then, he played for the San Antonio Spurs in 1978. During his NBA career, he averaged 3.1 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. He also played briefly for the Lancaster Red Roses in the Continental Basketball Association.
International Basketball Adventures
After his time in the NBA, Mosley decided to play basketball overseas. He had a long and successful international career. He played for teams in different countries.
He played in Italy for Liberti / Benetton Treviso from 1980 to 1982. Then, he moved to France. He played for CSP Limoges from 1982 to 1983. While playing in France, Mosley helped his team win big championships. They won the Ligue Nationale de Basketball (the French league) and the Korać Cup in 1983. The Korać Cup was a European club competition. Later in his career, he played for Ferro Carril Oeste in Argentina from 1984 to 1985.
