Glenwood is a small place in Whitman County, Washington, in the United States. It's what we call an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government. Glenwood is located about 5 miles (8 kilometers) northeast of a bigger town called Colfax, right by the north fork of the Palouse River.
Where Did Glenwood Get Its Name?
The people who first settled here chose the name "Glenwood" because of the beautiful nature around them. A "glen" is a narrow valley, and "woods" are forests. So, the name describes the lovely valleys and trees that were close to where the community first began.
