Goddington is a lovely area located in south-east London. It's part of the London Borough of Bromley. You can find it south of Ramsden and south-east of Orpington town centre. It's also north of Chelsfield. Goddington is right next to the London Green Belt, which is a special area of protected countryside. Before 1965, Goddington was actually part of the historic county of Kent.

Goddington's Past: A Look at History

Goddington was once a quiet, countryside area. It was first mentioned in records way back in the 1200s! Back then, it was known as a "rural manor." This means it was a large estate with land, often owned by a lord or a wealthy family. The name "Goddington" comes from Simon de Godyngton, who owned the land. His family's original home was in a place called Godinton in Kent.

Goddington stayed mostly rural for a long time. It only started to grow and have more houses built in 1926. This was when homes began appearing along Park Avenue. Over time, more development happened. In 1965, Goddington became part of the London Borough of Bromley. This was when the larger area of Greater London was created.

Fun Things to Do in Goddington Park

One of the best places in Goddington is Goddington Park. It's a huge park, covering about 64 hectares! That's like 150 football fields! The park has lots of space for sports and activities.

You can find five football pitches there, perfect for a game with friends. There are also two cricket squares and three rugby pitches. If you love football, there's even an astro-turf court. This is a special artificial grass surface. The park also has about 10 tennis courts for playing tennis. For younger kids, there are two fun play areas.

You can enter Goddington Park from Goddington Lane. There are also footpaths from Avalon Road, Court Road, and Chelsfield Lane. Another entrance is from Berrylands.

St Olave's Grammar School is a well-known school located on Goddington Lane. It was built in 1968.
