Godfrey C. Danchimah Jr. (born July 21, 1969), known simply as Godfrey, is a talented Nigerian-American comedian, actor, and voice artist. You might have seen him in movies like Soul Plane and Zoolander. He has also lent his voice to characters like Mr. Stubborn and Mr. Tall in The Mr. Men Show. Godfrey is a regular performer at the famous Comedy Cellar in New York. He also hosts his own podcast called 'In Godfrey We Trust'.

Godfrey's Early Life and Journey
Godfrey's parents came to the United States from Nigeria. They are from the Igbo tribe. They moved to the US to escape a difficult war in their home country. Godfrey is also related to the Nigerian musician Sonny Okosun.
Godfrey was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on July 21, 1969. His family soon moved to Chicago, where he grew up. He went to Lane Technical College Preparatory High School. Later, he earned a scholarship to the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. There, he studied psychology.
While at the University of Illinois, Godfrey joined the varsity football team. He performed at a talent show for new team members. He surprised everyone by doing funny impressions of his coaches and teammates. This is when he discovered his amazing talent for comedy!
Godfrey's Comedy Career
Godfrey started working on his stand-up comedy skills in the early 1990s. He performed at the All Jokes Aside comedy club in Chicago. In 1995, he made his first appearances in New York City. He performed at famous clubs like Carolines on Broadway and the Comic Strip Live. Soon after, a major talent agency signed him.
He began working in television, first as a warm-up comedian. He would entertain the audience before shows like Cosby started filming. His first time on camera was performing stand-up comedy for NBC's Friday Night Videos. After that, he got more small roles in TV shows and movies.
In 2000, Godfrey appeared at the Aspen Comedy Festival. He also performed on Comedy Central's Premium Blend. He played a funny role as an African pilot in the movie Soul Plane. He has also been featured many times on BET's Comic View.
Godfrey is also known for his "karate master" persona. He continues to act in films and TV shows. He also keeps up his stand-up comedy career in New York. His first one-hour comedy special was called "Godfrey: Black by Accident." It was filmed for Comedy Central in 2011.
He also performed at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal. His show there was very popular. In 2013, he had his own solo show at the same festival. His second one-hour special, "Godfrey: Regular Black," was filmed in his hometown of Chicago in 2016.
