Godley is a suburb of Hyde, a town in Greater Manchester, England. It's a part of the larger Tameside area. Godley has a long history, with records going back many centuries.
Godley was once part of the town of Hyde. This was when Hyde was a "municipal borough" in Cheshire. This lasted from 1881 until 1974. After 1974, Godley became part of the metropolitan borough of Tameside.
One of the earliest records of farming in the Tameside area comes from Godley. People were farming here between 1211 and 1249. This shows that Godley has been an active place for a very long time. In 1851, the Godley Reservoir was finished. This reservoir helps to supply water to the area.
