Company History
Godrej & Boyce (G&B) is the main company within the Godrej Enterprises Group. It was founded in 1897 by Ardeshir Godrej and his brother Pirojsha Burjorji Godrej. Pirojsha was in charge of making sure everything was built properly. The company started during a time called the Swadeshi movement, when people in India wanted to support Indian-made products. This helped the company grow as India began to develop its own industries.
In its early days, Godrej & Boyce created a new type of lock that didn't use springs. They also made India's first safe that could protect things from fire and burglars. Over the years, the company grew and started working in many different areas. For example, in aerospace, they have worked with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for more than 30 years.
Later, under the leadership of Pirojsha’s son, Naval Godrej, the company expanded even more. They built a special industrial town called Pirojshanagar in Vikhroli, Mumbai. This town is now where the company's main offices are located.
How the Group Was Restructured
In April 2024, the Godrej family announced a big change. They decided to split the Godrej Group into two separate parts: Godrej Enterprises Group (GEG) and Godrej Industries Group (GIG). Jamshyd Godrej became the leader of GEG, and Nyrika Holkar was named an Executive Director. GEG now manages Godrej & Boyce and all its different businesses.
