Golden Hockey Stick facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Golden Hockey Stick (which is Zlatá hokejka in Czech) is a really special award given to the best ice hockey player from the Czech Republic. Think of it like a "Most Valuable Player" award, but specifically for Czech hockey stars!

This award started a long time ago, in the 1968–69 hockey season. Back then, the Czech Republic and Slovakia were one country called Czechoslovakia. So, the Golden Hockey Stick was first given to the top player in the Czechoslovak First Ice Hockey League.

After 1993, when the Czech Republic and Slovakia became separate countries, the award changed a bit. Now, it goes to the best Czech player, no matter where in the world they play – whether it's in their home country or in big leagues like the NHL in North America!

Who Has Won the Golden Hockey Stick?

Many amazing hockey players have won this award over the years. It's a big honor to be chosen as the best Czech player!

One player stands out a lot: Jaromír Jágr. He has won the Golden Hockey Stick an incredible 12 times! That's more than anyone else. He's a true legend in hockey.

More recently, David Pastrňák has also won the award many times, taking it home six times so far.
