Population Growth in Golmayo
Golmayo has seen its population grow quite a bit recently. In 2006, about 1,527 people lived there. By 2008, this number had increased to 1,815 residents.
Why Golmayo's Population is Growing
Golmayo is very close to Soria, which is the main city of the province. Because of this, Golmayo is becoming a suburb of Soria. A suburb is a smaller town or area near a big city where many people live.
Between 1998 and 2008, Golmayo's population grew by 209%. This means it gained 932 new residents. This growth is special because many other towns in the Soria province have actually lost people during the same time. Golmayo went from being the 19th largest municipality in the province in 1996 to the 9th largest by population.
How Golmayo is Governed
Like other towns, Golmayo has its own local government. This government helps make decisions for the town.
The Mayor and Town Council
The main leader of Golmayo is called the Mayor. The current mayor is Mr. Benito Serrano from the People's Party.
The town also has a group of people called councillors. They work together in the town hall, which is called an ayuntamiento in Spain. These councillors help the mayor run the town. In Golmayo, the People's Party has four councillors. Another group, the "Agrupación Municipal Independiente de Golmayo," has three councillors. The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party has two councillors.
