Club Career Highlights
Starting at Benfica
Gonçalo Guedes was born in Benavente. He joined S.L. Benfica's youth academy in 2005 when he was just eight years old. In his very first game, he scored all five goals in a 5–0 win against a team of older boys. He also played in the first-ever UEFA Youth League in 2013–14. He helped Benfica win against strong teams like Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid to reach the final.
On April 19, 2014, Guedes made his professional debut for Benfica B. This was in a league match against Porto B. He played for 21 minutes in that game.
He made his debut for Benfica's first team on October 18, 2014, in a cup match. On January 4, 2015, he played his first game in the Primeira Liga, Portugal's top league. In July, he won the "Breakthrough Player of the Year" award for the 2014–15 season.
On September 26, 2015, Guedes scored his first goal for Benfica in a 3–0 league win. A few days later, on September 30, he scored his first goal in the UEFA Champions League. This made him the youngest Portuguese player to score in the Champions League group stage. The opposing manager, Diego Simeone, even praised him after the match. While at Benfica, he mostly played as a right-winger. Sometimes, he played as a central forward when the main striker was injured.
Moving to Paris Saint-Germain
On January 25, 2017, Guedes joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in France. The transfer fee was €30 million, and he signed a contract until 2021. He said he wanted to be like Pauleta, another Portuguese player who played for PSG. PSG won the race to sign him, beating Manchester United.
Guedes played his first game for PSG four days later. He came on as a substitute in a 1–1 draw against Monaco.
Success at Valencia

On September 1, 2017, Guedes was loaned to the Spanish club Valencia for the season. His agent, Jorge Mendes, helped make this transfer happen.
Guedes made his debut in La Liga, Spain's top league, eight days later. He came on as a substitute in a goalless draw against Atlético Madrid. On October 15, he scored his first goal for Valencia in a big 6–3 win. Six days later, he scored two goals and helped set up another in a 4–0 win against Sevilla. He received a lot of praise for his great start to the season.
On August 30, 2018, Guedes signed a permanent deal with Valencia until 2024. The initial fee was €40 million, which was a club record for Valencia. He had some injuries, including an ankle injury from October 2019 to February 2020. On May 25, 2019, he played in the 2019 Copa del Rey Final. Valencia beat Barcelona 2–1, winning their first trophy in 11 years.
The 2021–22 season was his best for Valencia. He scored 11 goals, making him the team's joint top scorer. He also played the most games and minutes that season. In March 2022, his long-range goal helped Valencia reach another Copa del Rey final.
Joining Wolverhampton Wanderers

On August 8, 2022, Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers signed Guedes. He signed a five-year contract for £27.5 million. He made his debut five days later, coming on as a substitute in a draw against Fulham. On August 20, he made his first start for the team.

On January 20, 2023, Guedes returned to his former club Benfica on loan for the rest of the 2022–23 season. The very next day, he came on as a substitute and scored in a 3–0 win.
In February, Guedes got a knee injury and needed surgery, which kept him out for almost two months. On May 21, 2023, he injured the same knee again and needed another surgery. Despite his injuries, Benfica won the Primeira Liga that season, and Guedes received a winner's medal.
On August 29, 2023, Benfica announced that Guedes' loan was extended until the end of the 2023–24 season. However, on January 19, 2024, his loan spell at Benfica ended early.
