Gonçalo Manuel Ganchinho Guedes (born 29 November 1996) is a Portuguese professional footballer. He plays as a winger or forward. Currently, he plays for the Wolverhampton Wanderers club.
Guedes started his football journey at Benfica. He played for their reserve team in April 2014 and joined the first team six months later. He scored 11 goals in 63 matches and helped Benfica win five major trophies. In January 2017, he moved to Paris Saint-Germain for €30 million. He played only 13 matches for PSG.
In September 2017, he was loaned to Valencia. A year later, he joined Valencia permanently for €40 million. He played 178 games and scored 36 goals for the Spanish club. He won the Copa del Rey in 2019 with Valencia. In 2022, he signed with Wolverhampton Wanderers for £27.5 million.
Guedes also played for Portugal's national youth teams. He earned 57 caps from the under-15 to under-23 levels. He made his debut for the senior national team in November 2015 when he was 18. He played in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He scored the winning goal for Portugal in the 2019 UEFA Nations League final.

Club Career Highlights
Starting at Benfica
Gonçalo Guedes was born in Benavente. He joined S.L. Benfica's youth academy in 2005. He quickly moved up through the ranks. When he was eight, he scored all five goals in a 5–0 win against older boys. He was part of Benfica's team in the first UEFA Youth League in 2013–14. His team beat strong clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid to reach the final.
On 19 April 2014, he played his first professional game. This was for Benfica B in a 2013–14 Segunda Liga match. On 18 October 2014, Guedes played for Benfica's first team. This was in a Taça de Portugal match. On 4 January 2015, he made his debut in the Primeira Liga.
On 4 July, he won the Breakthrough Player of the Year award. This was for the 2014–15 Segunda Liga season.
On 26 September 2015, Guedes scored his first goal for Benfica. This was in a 3–0 league victory. On 30 September, he scored his first goal in the UEFA Champions League. He became the youngest Portuguese player to score in the group stage. The opposing manager, Diego Simeone, praised him after the game. At Benfica, he mostly played as a right-winger. Sometimes, he played as a central forward when other players were injured.
Moving to Paris Saint-Germain
On 25 January 2017, Guedes joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The transfer fee was €30 million. He signed a contract until 2021. He said he wanted to be like Pauleta, another Portuguese player who played for PSG. PSG won against Manchester United to sign him.
Guedes played his first game for PSG four days later. He came on as a substitute in a 1–1 draw.
Playing for Valencia

On 1 September 2017, Guedes was loaned to the Spanish club Valencia. He stayed for the whole season. His agent, Jorge Mendes, helped with the transfer.
Guedes made his La Liga debut eight days later. He came on as a substitute in a goalless draw. On 15 October, Guedes scored his first goal for Valencia. This was in a 6–3 win. Six days later, he scored two goals and helped with another in a 4–0 win. He was praised by sports news for his great start.
On 30 August 2018, Guedes officially joined Valencia permanently. He signed a deal until 2024. The fee was €40 million, which could go up to €57 million. From December 2018 to February 2019, he was out due to a groin injury. On 25 May 2019, he played in the 2019 Copa del Rey Final. Valencia beat Barcelona 2–1. This was the club's first trophy in 11 years.
From October 2019 to February 2020, Guedes was injured again. This time it was his right ankle. On 30 December, he was sent off in a game for arguing with the referee. Joining Wolverhampton Wanderers

On 8 August 2022, Guedes joined Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers. He signed a five-year contract for £27.5 million. He made his debut five days later. He came on as a substitute in a 0–0 draw. On 20 August, he made his first start.
Loan Return to Benfica
On 20 January 2023, Guedes went back to his old club, Benfica, on loan. He stayed for the rest of the 2022–23 season. The next day, he came on as a substitute and scored a goal. This helped Benfica win 3–0.
On 25 February, Guedes got injured and needed knee surgery. This kept him out for almost two months. On 21 May 2023, he injured the same knee again. He needed another surgery. That season, Benfica won the Primeira Liga. Guedes received a winner's medal.
On 29 August 2023, Benfica announced that Guedes' loan was extended. It would last until the end of the 2023–24 season. However, on 19 January 2024, his loan spell ended early.
Loan to Villarreal
On 19 January 2024, Guedes went on another loan. This time, he joined the La Liga club Villarreal. He stayed until the end of the 2023–24 season. On 20 January 2024, Guedes played his first La Liga game for Villarreal. On 27 January, he scored his first goal for Villarreal. It was against Barcelona, and Villarreal won 5–3.
International Career
Gonçalo Guedes was first called to the Portugal senior team on 6 November 2015. This was for friendly matches. He made his debut eight days later. He started in a 1–0 loss. This made him the first 18-year-old to play for Portugal since Cristiano Ronaldo.
On 10 November 2017, Guedes scored his first goal for the senior team. It was in a 3–0 friendly win. He also helped set up another goal in that match.
Guedes was chosen for Portugal's 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. In the last warm-up match before the tournament, he scored two goals. Portugal won 3–0.
