History of Gonvick

Gonvick got its name from Martin O. Gonvick. He was an early settler in the area and came from Norway. The first post office in Gonvick opened in the year 1900.

School Life in Gonvick

Children from Gonvick attend the Clearbrook-Gonvick School. This school is located in Clearbrook, which is a short drive away. Gonvick used to have its own school building. Today, that building is used by the Clearwater Life Center. It has shops, a florist, and offers different classes.

The sports teams from Clearbrook (the Hornets) and Gonvick (the Bulldogs) joined together in 1992. They became the Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears. For a while, younger students went to school in Gonvick. High school students went to Clearbrook. In 2004, a new school was built in Clearbrook. Now, all students attend school there.

Famous People from Gonvick

One of the most famous people from Gonvick is Ed Widseth. He was an amazing football player. Ed played as a tackle for the University of Minnesota. He helped his team win three national championships from 1934 to 1936. Later, he played for the New York Giants. Ed Widseth is so famous that he was put into the College Football Hall of Fame.
