Goodman's History and Founding
Goodman was first settled by European Americans in 1860. The town was officially recognized, or chartered, on November 16, 1865. This happened right after the American Civil War ended. It was rechartered again on March 5, 1878.
The town got its name from the very first president of the Mississippi Central Railroad. This railroad was important for connecting different places.

Goodman is known as the birthplace of some important people:
- John A. Lomax (1867–1948) was a pioneer who collected and studied American folk songs.
