Goodman's History
Goodman got its name from a person named L. A. Goodman. He was a businessperson who worked in the local fruit orchards. The city has had its own post office since 1897, which is a long time!
Goodman's Geography
Goodman is found in the northern part of McDonald County. It is located right along Missouri Route 59. This road is just east of two bigger highways, U.S. Route 71 and Interstate 49.
The city is about 10 miles (16 km) south of Neosho. Neosho is in Newton County. Goodman is also about 6 miles (10 km) north of Anderson.
The city of Goodman covers an area of about 1.33 square miles (3.44 square kilometers). All of this area is land. Goodman sits on a raised area of land called a ridge. Water from this ridge flows in different directions. Some water goes east into Indian Creek. Other water flows south into Beaver Branch, which is a smaller stream that joins Indian Creek. Water also flows west into the Sugar Fork of Buffalo Creek.
All the water in Goodman eventually flows into the Elk River. The Elk River then flows west and joins the Neosho River.
