Where These Frogs Live
Megophryid frogs are found across a wide area in Asia. Their home stretches from the foothills of the Himalayas. It goes eastwards, reaching south into Indonesia. You can also find them on the Greater Sunda Islands and in the Philippines. They prefer warm places in this region.
Masters of Disguise
Megophryid frogs are famous for their amazing camouflage. This is especially true for those living in forests. They often look exactly like dead leaves. Some even have special skin folds. These folds make them look like the veins on a leaf. This helps them hide from predators.
Size and Young Frogs
Megophryid frogs come in different sizes. They can be as small as 2 centimetres (0.79 in) long. The largest ones can grow up to 12.5 centimetres (4.9 in) in length. Adult megophryids have a special tongue. It is shaped like a paddle.
Their young, called tadpoles, live in water. You can find them in many different watery places. They especially like ponds and streams. Because they live in so many different habitats, their tadpoles look very diverse.
