The Goosebumps video games are a fun series of action-adventure games. They are all based on the super popular Goosebumps books by R.L. Stine. These games let you dive into spooky stories and face creepy monsters!

Escape from HorrorLand (1996)

Escape from HorrorLand came out in 1996 for computers. This game is a follow-up to the Goosebumps book called One Day at HorrorLand. It even features famous actors like Adam Wylie, Eric Lloyd, Isabella Rossellini, and Jeff Goldblum. The game's director, Lawrence Guterman, later directed movies like Cats & Dogs.

Attack of the Mutant (1997)

Attack of the Mutant is a computer game for kids. It's based on the Goosebumps book of the same name by R.L. Stine. DreamWorks Interactive developed this game, and it was released on September 25, 1997. It was one of the first games to use a cool art style called cel-shaded animation, which makes it look like a cartoon.

In the game, the hero gets off a bus at the wrong stop. They suddenly find themselves at the secret hideout of the Masked Mutant! Inside, you must team up with good guys from comic books, called the League of Good Guys. Your mission is to stop the Masked Mutant and his evil helpers. They want to turn the whole world into a giant comic book!

The game includes many characters from the original book. You'll meet the Galloping Gazelle, the Masked Mutant, and the Magnificent Molecule Man. There are also new characters, like the villain Pinky Flamingo. The hero is a silent child, so you get to imagine their voice. The Galloping Gazelle was voiced by Adam West, who played the same role in the TV episode. The Masked Mutant was voiced by James Belushi.

Goosebumps HorrorLand (2008)

Scholastic Book Company released a Goosebumps HorrorLand video game. It came out on October 28, 2008, in North America. In Europe, it was released on October 16, 2009. This game was made for the Nintendo DS, Wii, and PlayStation 2 systems.

The game was developed by Gusto Games. The story follows a young child and their friends. They get trapped in HorrorLand, a scary theme park. Players must complete challenging levels to escape this evil place. The game is similar to the older Goosebumps Escape From HorrorLand game. Players have to beat mini-games in different areas. This helps them figure out who is behind the scary events and find their way home.

The official website showed that the game's HorrorLand has five main areas:

  • Vampire Village (this is the main hub that connects to all other areas).
  • Mad Labs.
  • Terror Tombs (an area with an Egyptian theme).
  • Fever Swamp.
  • The Carnival of Screams.

Many of these areas are references to classic Goosebumps books.

Game Story

The game begins when a Horror creature leaves a ticket on your doorstep. You tear it up, but the ticket magically puts itself back together! Soon after, your friend Nate comes over. Both you and Nate decide to go to HorrorLand.

You start in the Carnival of Screams. A Horror gives you 20 tokens for rides. You need to reach a certain "fright level" to get into Vampire Village. This is one of the five main attractions in HorrorLand. You must get a high enough fright level to ride the Roller Ghoster. On this ride, you save a young girl named Gigi, who is trapped. After you rescue her, Gigi joins you. Together, you try to find the ticket pieces to leave HorrorLand.

Later, you reach Fever Swamp. Here, you find out that a show with the Great Gargantua is closed. This is because the monster has escaped! When you get to Mad Labs, you must collect 100 tokens. These tokens let you get a mask, which is a reference to The Haunted Mask. Once you wear the mask, you turn into a Horror! This lets you go into the "Horrors Only" lounge to get a piece of the ticket. While in the lounge, Horrifico, the king of HorrorLand, catches you. In Mad Labs, you might hear a woman's voice saying, "If you see a girl in a blue dress holding a monster doll, do not attempt to approach her. She is extremely dangerous." This description is actually about Gigi!

The secret of HorrorLand is slowly revealed. You need 50 points for the "fright restriction" to enter Terror Tombs. Getting a gold medal on the Pharaoh's Fairway earns you the last piece of the ticket. At the end of the game, the Horrors grab you. You are put on the final ride called "Certain Death." You must battle your way through to rescue Gigi and escape. When you finally get out, you discover that Gigi is actually the Great Gargantua! She changes into the creature and announces her plan to turn the whole world into her own HorrorLand. As she flies away, the screen fades to "The End."
