Gorka Márquez facts for kids

Gorka Márquez (born September 4, 1990) is a professional dancer from Spain. He is famous for being one of the dancers on the British TV show Strictly Come Dancing.

Early life and dance journey

Gorka started dancing when he was 12 years old. In 2010, he represented Spain at the World Latin Championships. He even reached the semi-finals of the World DanceSport Federation World Cup in 2012. Later, in 2014, Gorka joined a live dance show called Burn the Floor. He traveled the world performing as one of their main dancers.

Dancing on Strictly Come Dancing

In 2016, Gorka Márquez became a professional dancer on the BBC show Strictly Come Dancing. This show is very popular and features ballroom dancing.

• Series 14 (2016): Gorka's first partner was actress Tameka Empson. They were eliminated in the third week of the competition.
• Series 15 (2017): He returned with singer Alexandra Burke. They did very well and reached the final, finishing as joint runners-up. Gorka and Alexandra set a record for getting the most "10" scores in one series. They received 32 perfect "10s" from the judges!
• Series 16 (2018): Gorka danced with TV presenter Katie Piper. They were eliminated in week four.
• Series 17 (2019): Gorka was not a main professional dancer this year. However, he still took part in the weekly group dances.
• Series 18 (2020): He returned as a main professional and reached the final with actress Maisie Smith.
• Series 19 (2021): Gorka partnered with actress Katie McGlynn. They left the competition in week three.
• Series 20 (2022): He reached the final again with TV presenter Helen Skelton.
• Series 21 (2023): Gorka was partnered with Nikita Kanda. They were eliminated in week three.
• Series 22 (2024): His partner was Punam Krishan. They were eliminated in week six.

Personal life

Gorka Márquez got engaged to British actress Gemma Atkinson on Valentine's Day in 2021. They have two children together.
