Keisha Kerreece Fayeanne Buchanan (born 30 September 1984) is an English singer and songwriter. She is best known as a founding member of the girl group Sugababes, along with her friends Mutya Buena and Siobhán Donaghy.
With Sugababes, Keisha has achieved great success. The group had six number-one hit singles and two number-one albums in the United Kingdom. This makes them one of the most successful British pop groups of the 21st century.
In 2009, Keisha left the group and was replaced by Jade Ewen. However, in 2012, she reunited with the original members, Mutya and Siobhán. They first performed under the name Mutya Keisha Siobhan. By 2019, they were able to use the name Sugababes again.

Early Life

Career
1998–2009: The Sugababes Era
Forming the Group
In 1998, Siobhán Donaghy and Mutya Buena were both 13 years old and had plans to be solo singers. After performing at the same event, they decided to work together. Mutya invited her best friend, Keisha, to watch them in the studio. Their manager thought the three girls would make a great trio. They were first called The Sugababies, but changed it to Sugababes for a more grown-up image.
The group's first single, "Overload", was a top 10 hit in the UK in 2000. Their first album, One Touch, also did well. However, their record label, London Records, was not satisfied with the sales and dropped the group in 2001.
Line-up Changes and Big Hits
In 2001, Siobhán Donaghy left the group during a promotional tour in Japan. She was replaced by Heidi Range, a former member of the group Atomic Kitten.
With Heidi, the group signed with Island Records. Their first single on the new label, "Freak like Me", went straight to number one in the UK. Their next single, "Round Round", also hit the top spot. These hits made their second album, Angels with Dirty Faces, a huge success. It sold almost a million copies in the UK.
The group's third album, Three, came out in 2003. Its lead single, "Hole in the Head", became their third UK number-one hit. It was also their first single to chart in the United States. Another popular song from the album, "Too Lost in You", was featured in the movie Love Actually.
During this time, there were many rumors in the newspapers about disagreements within the group. The members said that they had some arguments but continued to work together.
Continued Success and Another Change
In 2005, the Sugababes released the song "Push the Button". It was a massive hit, staying at number one in the UK for three weeks. Their album Taller in More Ways also went to number one.
In December 2005, Mutya Buena left the group to focus on her personal life after having a baby. She was replaced by Amelle Berrabah. The group re-recorded some songs on Taller in More Ways with Amelle's vocals and released a new version of the album.
With Amelle, the group continued to release hit songs. In 2007, they collaborated with the group Girls Aloud on a charity single, "Walk This Way". It became their fifth UK number-one single.
Final Years with the Group
The Sugababes' fifth album, Change, was released in 2007 and also reached number one. The lead single, "About You Now", was a huge success. It stayed at number one for four weeks and became their highest-selling single.
After their sixth album, Catfights and Spotlights, the group started working on a new album called Sweet 7 in the United States. They even signed a deal with Jay-Z's record label, Roc Nation.
However, on 21 September 2009, it was announced that Keisha Buchanan had left the group. This meant that none of the original members were left in the Sugababes. Keisha was replaced by Jade Ewen. Keisha later said on Twitter that it was not her choice to leave. She wrote:
I'm sad to say that I am no longer a part of the Sugababes ... Although it was not my choice to leave, it's time to enter a new chapter in my life ... I would like to state that there were no arguments, bullying or anything of the sort that lead [sic] to this. Sometimes a breakdown in communication and lack of trust can result in many different things.
Many fans and critics were unhappy with the news, as Keisha had been a key part of the group's sound and success.
2009–2011: Solo Work
After leaving the Sugababes, Keisha began working on her own solo album. She recorded around 50 songs with well-known music producers. She described the music as honest and raw, with an international sound.
In 2011, she performed some of her new songs at her first solo show in London. However, her solo album was never released. She decided to put her solo career on hold to reunite with her original bandmates.
2011–Present: Reunion and Return of Sugababes
Mutya Keisha Siobhan
In 2011, rumors began to spread that the original Sugababes members would get back together. In July 2012, Keisha, Mutya, and Siobhán officially reformed under the name Mutya Keisha Siobhan (or MKS). They couldn't use the name "Sugababes" because it was still being used by the other lineup.
The trio signed a record deal with Polydor Records and began writing new songs. They worked with artists like Emeli Sandé and Shaznay Lewis from the group All Saints. In 2013, they released their first single as MKS, called "Flatline".
Reclaiming the Sugababes Name
Behind the scenes, the original members worked to get the legal rights to the Sugababes name. In 2019, they succeeded and officially reformed as Sugababes.
Their first release back as Sugababes was a cover of the song "Flowers" with DJ Spoony. In 2022, the group released The Lost Tapes. This album included songs they had recorded as MKS that had never been released before.
Since their reunion, Sugababes have been performing at festivals and went on a headline tour. In 2023, Keisha also appeared on the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special, where she danced with Gorka Márquez.
