Keisha Kerreece Fayeanne Buchanan (/ˈkiːʃə/ KEE-shə; born 30 September 1984) is an English singer and songwriter. She is a founding member of the popular girl group Sugababes. She started the group with Mutya Buena and Siobhán Donaghy.
With the Sugababes, Keisha has achieved great success. They had six songs reach number one on the charts. They also had two number-one albums. This made them one of the most successful British pop groups of the 21st century. Keisha left the group in September 2009 and was replaced by Jade Ewen. However, she returned to the group in 2012 with the original members.
In 2012, Keisha and her former bandmates, Mutya Buena and Siobhán Donaghy, decided to reunite. At first, they could not use the name "Sugababes." This was because other singers were using it. So, they released music as Mutya Keisha Siobhan. In 2019, they got the legal rights to the Sugababes name back.

Career
1998–2009: Sugababes
In May 1998, Siobhán Donaghy and Mutya Buena were both 13 years old. They were signed as solo artists. But they decided to work together after performing at the same event. Mutya invited her friend Keisha Buchanan to watch them in the studio.
Their manager decided the three girls should be a group. He thought their different looks were like the "United Colors of Benetton" campaign. They were first called "the Sugababies." Later, their name changed to "Sugababes" for a more grown-up image. This happened when they signed with London Records.
The group's first song was "Overload" in 2000. It reached number 6 on the UK music charts. Their first album, One Touch, came out next. The group helped write most of the songs on this album.
The album sold well, but not as much as their record label hoped. So, London Records dropped the group in 2001.
During a trip to Japan in August 2001, Siobhán Donaghy left the group. She first said she wanted to work in fashion. Later, she shared that she was feeling unwell. Heidi Range, a former member of another group called Atomic Kitten, joined the Sugababes.
The group then signed with a new record label, Island Records. Their first song with Heidi, "Freak like Me", became their first UK number 1 hit. Their next song, "Round Round", also reached number 1.
Their second album, Angels with Dirty Faces, was a huge success. It reached number 2 on the UK charts. It sold almost a million copies in the UK. This is still their best-selling album.
The group's third album, Three, came out in late 2003. It reached number 3 on the UK Albums Chart. The first song from this album, "Hole in the Head", became their third UK number 1 hit. This song even charted in the United States.
Another song from the album, "Too Lost in You", was in the movie Love Actually. In 2004, the Sugababes sang on the charity song "Do They Know It's Christmas?". This song went to number 1 in the UK.
After a break, the Sugababes released "Push the Button" in October 2005. This song was a massive hit. It stayed at number 1 in the UK for three weeks. It also topped the charts in other countries.
Their album Taller in More Ways became their first UK number 1 album. At one point, the group had the number 1 song, album, and downloads all at the same time. This was a first for a girl group.
On 21 December 2005, Mutya Buena left the group. She said it was for personal reasons after her daughter was born. Amelle Berrabah joined the Sugababes to replace Mutya.
The Sugababes released a greatest hits album called Overloaded: The Singles Collection in 2006. They also worked with another British girl group, Girls Aloud. They covered the song "Walk This Way" for a charity event. This song became the Sugababes' fifth UK number one hit.
Their fifth studio album, Change, came out in 2007. This was the first album with Amelle on all the songs. The first song from the album, "About You Now", became their sixth UK number one hit. It stayed at number 1 for four weeks. This song is their highest-selling single.
In October 2007, Change became the group's second UK number 1 album. For the second time, they had the number 1 song, album, and downloads all at once. From March to May 2008, the Sugababes went on their biggest tour, the Change Tour.
After the tour, the Sugababes started working on their sixth album, Catfights and Spotlights. The first song from this album, "Girls", came out in October 2008. The album reached number 8 in the UK.
In 2009, the group decided not to tour. Instead, they focused on making their seventh album, Sweet 7. They signed a deal with Jay-Z's label, Roc Nation. This allowed them to work with famous producers.
On 21 September 2009, it was announced that Keisha Buchanan had left the group. This meant none of the original members were left. Jade Ewen replaced Keisha. Keisha later said on Twitter that it was not her choice to leave.
Many fans and critics were upset by this news. Some journalists wrote articles praising Keisha's contributions to the group.
On 1 July 2011, Keisha met the Sugababes members at a festival in London. They had a friendly reunion and put their past differences behind them. It was the first time Keisha had seen Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah in two years. It was also the first time she met Jade Ewen.
2009–2011: Solo career
After leaving the Sugababes, Keisha started working on her own album. She recorded many songs for it. She said there was no single musical style, just a good "vibe." Keisha wanted to show off her singing and inspire people. She described the album as "very honest."
She also said the album had an "international sound." She wanted other musicians to like it. In June 2011, Keisha performed solo for the first time in London. She also appeared in a music video for the song "Oliver Twist" in April 2012. However, Keisha later left her record label to reunite with Mutya and Siobhán. Because of this, her solo album was not released.
2011–2019: Mutya Keisha Siobhan
In October 2011, news spread that the original Sugababes members would get back together. In January 2012, Mutya and Keisha posted on Twitter that they were in the studio. They were with "two other females" and a rapper.
Later, singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé confirmed she had written new songs for Mutya, Keisha, and Siobhán. She said she loved the Sugababes when they first started. In April 2012, it was reported that the group signed a record deal. In June 2012, Siobhán Donaghy confirmed that new music would be released soon.
In July 2012, the group officially reformed under the name Mutya Keisha Siobhan. They started writing songs for a new album. They made their first public appearance together in eleven years at the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony. On 6 August, they confirmed they had written two songs with Shaznay Lewis from the group All Saints. The next day, Siobhán Donaghy tweeted that the album was finished.
2019–present: Touring and The Lost Tapes
Behind the scenes, the members of Mutya Keisha Siobhan worked to get the Sugababes name back. Mutya gained some rights to merchandise in 2011. Keisha registered the trademark in the U.S. in 2015.
After winning full control, the group reunited as the Sugababes in 2019. They released a song called "Flowers" in October 2019. This was a cover of a hit song from 2000. It was a collaboration with DJ Spoony.
In May 2020, Keisha Buchanan started her own YouTube channel. She talks about her past and present experiences there.
