Shaznay's Music Journey
Starting with All Saints (1993–2001)
Shaznay met Melanie Blatt in 1993 at a recording studio in London. They started making music together. Soon, they formed a group called All Saints 1.9.7.5. Later, the group's name was shortened to All Saints.
After a change in members, Nicole and Natalie Appleton joined the group. In 1997, All Saints became very successful around the world. Their song "Never Ever", which Shaznay helped write, became a huge hit. It reached number one in the UK and Australia. Over 1.2 million copies of the song were sold in the UK.
The group's first album, All Saints, also did very well. Most of the songs on it were co-written by Shaznay. The album reached number two in the UK and sold 1.5 million copies. In 2000, All Saints had another number one hit with "Pure Shores". Shaznay wrote this song with William Orbit. Their song "Black Coffee" also reached number one.
In early 2001, All Saints decided to take a break. Shaznay then began working on her own music. That same year, she won an Ivor Novello Award for her excellent songwriting.
Solo Album Open (2002–2004)
In 2004, Shaznay released her first solo song, "Never Felt Like This Before". This song was very popular and reached number 8 in the UK. Her first solo album, Open, came out on July 19, 2004. It reached number 22 in the UK charts. Later that year, she released another song called "You".
Besides music, Shaznay also appeared in movies. She played the role of Mel in the movie Bend It Like Beckham in 2002. She also had a part in the film Hideous Man that same year. In November 2004, Shaznay joined many other artists for Band Aid 20. They re-recorded the famous song "Do They Know It's Christmas?" to raise money for charity.
All Saints Reunions and Songwriting (2006–2019)
All Saints got back together in 2006. They signed a new music deal and released an album called Studio 1. Their song "Rock Steady" was a success, reaching number 3 in the UK. However, their album Studio 1 did not do as well, reaching number 40. After this, All Saints decided to part ways with their record label.
In 2008, Shaznay was featured on the Wideboys song "Daddy-O". This song reached number 32 in the UK. Shaznay also wrote songs for other artists. She wrote "Reach Out" for Westlife and "Black Heart" for Stooshe. In 2012, she worked with the original members of Sugababes to write new music.
All Saints reunited again in 2014 to perform with the Backstreet Boys on their UK and Ireland tour. On January 27, 2016, All Saints announced their fourth album, Red Flag. The first song from this album was "One Strike". The band also released another album in 2018 called Testament. Shaznay wrote songs for both of these albums with other talented writers. To support their albums, All Saints went on two UK tours and performed at festivals. They also joined Take That on their "Wonderland Live" tour.
In 2019, Shaznay co-wrote the theme music for the Netflix show 'Turn Up Charlie' with Idris Elba.
