Heidi India Partakis (born 23 May 1983), whose maiden name was Range, is an English singer. She is most famous for being a member of the girl group Sugababes.

Before joining Sugababes, Heidi was an original member of another girl group called Atomic Kitten. However, she left that group before they released any songs. In 2001, Heidi joined the Sugababes. She replaced an original member named Siobhán Donaghy. After Heidi joined, the Sugababes became very successful. They had six songs reach number one in the UK. They also had two albums that reached number one. The group continued to be popular for about ten years. The Sugababes line-up with Heidi disbanded in 2011.

Since then, Heidi has appeared on TV shows like Dancing on Ice (2012) and Celebrity MasterChef (2013). She has also performed in theatre shows such as Happy Days (2014) and The War of the Worlds (2016).

Career

Early Music Days: Atomic Kitten

In 1997, Heidi tried out for a group called Scooch but was too young. Instead, she joined Atomic Kitten. This girl group was started by Andy McCluskey from the band OMD. Heidi joined with Liz McClarnon and Kerry Katona. She recorded many demo songs for their first album.

In 1999, after eight months, Heidi decided to leave Atomic Kitten. She was offered a solo music deal. Natasha Hamilton then took her place in Atomic Kitten.

Joining Sugababes: 2001–2011

In August 2001, Heidi was asked to try out for the Sugababes. The group had already started working on their second album. With Heidi as a new member, the Sugababes found a new record label, Island Records.

Their first song with the new label was "Freak like Me". This song became their first number one hit in the UK. Their next song, "Round Round", also went straight to number one in the UK. It reached number two in Ireland, the Netherlands, and New Zealand. Both songs sold very well.

The group's second album, Angels with Dirty Faces, reached number two in the UK. It sold almost a million copies there. This is still their best-selling album. A song from the album, "Stronger", was another top ten hit. It was released with "Angels with Dirty Faces", which was the theme song for The Powerpuff Girls Movie.

After a break, the Sugababes released "Push the Button" in October 2005. This song was number one in the UK for three weeks. It also reached number one in Ireland, Austria, and New Zealand. It was a top three hit in many other countries. Their fourth album, Taller in More Ways, became their first UK number one album. The group was number one on the singles, album, radio, and download charts all at the same time. This was a first for a girl group.

In December 2005, Mutya Buena, an original member, left the Sugababes. Amelle Berrabah replaced her. The group re-recorded some songs from Taller in More Ways with Amelle. The song "Red Dress" was released and reached number four in the UK. This album was very successful.

In 2009, the Guinness Book of World Records listed their song "About You Now" as the first song by a British pop act to top the singles chart just from downloads.

The Sugababes then started working on their seventh album, Sweet 7. In April 2009, they signed a deal with Jay-Z's record label, Roc Nation. This meant they worked with famous music producers.

In September 2009, there was a big change in the group. Keisha Buchanan, the last original member, left the Sugababes. Jade Ewen joined the group to take her place. Heidi and Amelle said they did not make Keisha leave. They had tried to leave themselves, but their management decided to keep them and find a new member for Keisha.

Jade Ewen quickly flew to the United States to film a music video for the song "About a Girl". This song reached number eight in the UK. The album Sweet 7 was released in March 2010. Another song, "Wear My Kiss", reached number seven in the UK. This made Sweet 7 the first Sugababes album since Taller in More Ways to have at least three top ten songs.

In March 2010, former member Mutya Buena tried to get ownership of the Sugababes name. Around the same time, the group was dropped by Roc Nation because Sweet 7 did not sell as well as hoped.

In July 2011, Keisha Buchanan met Heidi and Amelle at a festival. They had a friendly reunion and put their past differences behind them. In September 2011, the Sugababes released a new song called "Freedom". It was a free download. After this, the group decided to take a break for an unknown amount of time.

Other Projects: 2012–Present

In 2012, Heidi said she was thinking about recording her own solo album. She also appeared on the TV show Dancing on Ice in 2012. In 2013, Heidi was on Celebrity MasterChef, but she was the first person to be eliminated.

In 2014, she played the main female role, Pinky Tuscadero, in a Happy Days musical that toured the UK. In 2016, she was in the West End musical The War of the Worlds. In 2023, Heidi was part of the UK jury for the Eurovision Song Contest.
