Gorno-Altaysk (Russian: Го́рно-Алта́йск; Altay: Улалу) is an important town in Russia. It is the capital of the Altai Republic. The town is located in a beautiful mountainous area.
About 64,000 people live in Gorno-Altaysk as of 2020. The town has grown steadily over the years. In the past, it had different names. Before 1932, it was called Ulala. From 1932 to 1948, it was known as Oyrot-Tura.

History of Gorno-Altaysk
Gorno-Altaysk started as a small village called Ulala in 1824. People moved here from a place called Biysk. When the Oirot Autonomous Oblast was created in 1922, Ulala became its main city.
The village officially became a town on February 27, 1928. A few years later, on June 23, 1932, its name changed to Oyrot-Tura. Finally, on January 7, 1948, the town received its current name, Gorno-Altaysk.
Climate and Weather
Gorno-Altaysk has a climate with very cold winters and warm summers. This type of climate is called a humid continental climate.
In winter, it gets very chilly, and snow falls. Summers are much warmer, and that's when most of the rain happens.

Gorno-Altaysk is the capital city of the Altai Republic. This means it's the main center for government and important decisions in the region.
