Goshen's Story

Goshen was started in 1849. At first, it had a different name: Saltillo. This name came from a city in Mexico. It was named after a battle that happened there in 1847 during the Mexican–American War.

In 1851, a new post office opened in the community. People decided to change the name to Goshen. This name comes from the Bible. The biblical Land of Goshen was known for having very good soil. People thought this name fit the area well.

Goshen officially became a city in 1990. This means the state government recognized it as its own city.
