History of Grandview Heights

Grandview Heights started as part of a community called Marble Cliff. This area was one of the first suburbs of Columbus. People began settling here around 1890.

In 1901, Marble Cliff officially became a "Hamlet." A hamlet is a small settlement, even smaller than a village. Just a few years later, in 1906, Grandview Heights became its own separate village. It continued to grow, and by 1931, it officially became a city!

The Historic Bank Block

The Bank Block is a special old shopping area along Grandview Avenue. This street is the main commercial road in the city. The Bank Block was built in 1927. It was one of the first shopping areas to include its own parking lot, which was a big deal back then!

When it first opened, the Bank Block had 12 different shops. These included a grocery store, a pharmacy, and a bank. It was a busy spot for people to get everything they needed.
