The post office first opened in 1901 and was called Pinetop. It kept this name for nearly 20 years. In 1920, the name changed to Grattan. The post office served the community for another 15 years before it closed in 1935. Today, people in Grattan use the ZIP code 56661, which is based in nearby Northome.
