Greasestock was a fun yearly event held in Yorktown Heights, New York. At this festival, people showed off all sorts of cool cars that ran on alternative energy. They also shared ideas about living a sustainable lifestyle that helps the planet. Even though it's usually not allowed in New York to power a car with old cooking oil, the local officials were okay with the festival and even took part in it!

What Was Greasestock?

Greasestock started in 2003. It was created by people who were really interested in cars that could run on vegetable oil. The event took place at Peter Pratt's Inn, which is a very old and important building.

How Greasestock Grew

Jon Pratt, who helped start Greasestock, said that the very first event was small. Only about eight people came to talk about ways to use less gasoline. But after that, Greasestock got bigger and bigger every year! People from all over the United States came to visit. They were interested in finding ways to save money on gas, use cleaner energy, and help the environment.

Greasestock was a great place to see many different kinds of green technologies.

People came from all over the United States to show off their inventions. There were about a hundred vehicles on display! One special vehicle was a garbage truck from Mamaroneck, New York, that ran on vegetable oil. It was the first of its kind in New York!
