Company History
Gree started in Zhuhai, Guangdong, in 1989. Its first name was Zhuhai City Haili Cooling Engineering Company Limited. In 1994, the company changed its name to Gree Electric Appliances Inc. of Zhuhai.
When it first began, Gree was a small factory. It had only 200 employees. Each year, it made fewer than 20,000 air conditioners.

In 1996, Gree became a public company. This meant its shares could be bought and sold on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. The company grew a lot over the years. By 2008, Gree's sales increased by 47%. This happened even during a time when the world economy was struggling.
