Green River State Park is a fun state park located in Green River, Emery County, Utah. It sits right on the west bank of the famous Green River. This park is a great spot for outdoor adventures and learning about nature. It was officially opened in 1965.

Fun Things to Do at the Park

Green River State Park offers many activities for visitors. You can enjoy a nine-hole golf course, perfect for a relaxing game. The park also has a campground where you can set up your tent or RV. This area is nicely shaded by tall cottonwood trees, making it a cool place to stay.

Boating and River Trips

If you love being on the water, the park has a convenient boat ramp. This ramp is a popular starting point for exciting float trips. Many people begin their journey here to explore the amazing Labyrinth and Stillwater Canyons along the Green River. It's a fantastic way to see the beautiful scenery from the water.

Fishing in the Green River

The Green River is home to different kinds of fish. You might find catfish and carp here. But there are also four special native fish that are very rare and protected. These include the Colorado pikeminnow, razorback sucker, humpback chub, and bonytail chub. These fish are endemic, which means they are only found in this specific river system.

If you enjoy fishing, you are welcome to cast your line in the park. However, it's very important to protect the rare fish. If you accidentally catch one of the unique native fish, you must carefully release it back into the river. This helps keep these special species safe from extinction.

About the Green River

The Green River is a major tributary (a smaller river that flows into a larger one) of the mighty Colorado River. It starts its long journey in the state of Wyoming. From there, it flows for about 291 miles before it even reaches Utah.

The River's Journey

After Wyoming, the Green River travels through Colorado for about 42 miles. Then, it enters Utah and continues for another 397 miles. This makes it a very long and important river in the western United States. The point where the Green River finally meets the Colorado River is inside the stunning Canyonlands National Park. This meeting point is called a confluence.
