Green River Trail facts for kids
The Green River Trail is a fun path for walking and biking in King County, Washington, USA. It's about 19.6-mile (31.5 km) long. This trail follows the beautiful Duwamish and Green Rivers. You'll cross the river many times on bridges! The trail takes you through different kinds of places, from busy industrial areas to peaceful countryside.
The trail starts in the north near the Duwamish Waterway, close to Seattle. As you head south, you'll pass cool spots like Cecil Moses Park. It connects with the Interurban Trail near Fort Dent Park in Tukwila. Then it goes into Kent, passing Briscoe Park and the Green River Natural Resources Area. It even goes through the Riverbend Golf Complex. The trail meets the Interurban Trail again at Foster Park in Kent. There are plans to make the trail even longer, going south through Auburn, Washington all the way to Flaming Geyser State Park.

Exploring the Green River Trail
The paved part of the trail begins at the Turning Basin Restoration Area. This is on the west side of the Duwamish River. A "turning basin" is a special wide spot in the river. It lets big ships turn around and head back downstream.
As you follow the trail, you'll pass Cecil Moses Memorial Park. You'll also cross a bridge near North Wind's Weir. This is an important cultural site for Native American people. Then, you'll cross back over the river on another bridge.
Journey Through Tukwila
The trail continues along the Duwamish River. You'll go past Tukwila's Allentown neighborhood. From here, you can see the City of Tukwila Community Center across the river. The trail goes under Interstate 5. It also passes Foster Golf Links, where it leaves the river for a bit.
Soon, the trail returns to the river. It crosses to the other side just above where the Black River joins the Duwamish. This is where the Duwamish River officially ends. From here, the trail winds through Fort Dent Park. It follows the Green River, then leaves the park by crossing back to the other side.
Connecting with Other Trails
Soon, you'll reach the northern meeting point with the Interurban Trail. The Interurban Trail heads mostly straight south. But the Green River Trail keeps following the winding path of the river. You'll go under Interstate 405. You'll also pass Tukwila's Bicentennial Park and Minkler Pond.
Eventually, the trail returns to the right side of the Green River. It runs along the Desimone Levee for much of the way to Briscoe Park. As you keep heading south, you'll go through or next to several other public parks. These include Three Friends Fishing Hole, Anderson Park, the Green River Natural Resources Area, and Van Doren's Landing Park. You'll also see several green areas along the way.
Reaching the End of the Trail
Near Russell Road Park, the trail makes some big turns. After going around the Riverbend Golf Course, the trail heads mostly east. It eventually passes through Riverview Park. Here, it meets up with the Interurban Trail again at Foster Park. The official trail then continues along some streets in Kent. Another riverside part of the trail brings you to North Green River Park. This is where the current trail ends.
