Grove Park-Tilden Township is a special kind of local area, like a small district, in Polk County, Minnesota, United States. It completely surrounds the city of Mentor.
You can find a few small communities inside or near the township. These include Dugdale and a place called Tilden Junction. The community of Marcoux Corner is right on the edge of the township. Grove Park-Tilden Township is also part of the larger Grand Forks-ND-MN Metropolitan Statistical Area, which means it's connected to a bigger group of towns and cities. In the year 2000, about 311 people lived here.
History of Grove Park-Tilden
Grove Park-Tilden Township was created in 1992. Before that, it was two separate townships: Grove Park Township and Tilden Township.
Grove Township was first set up in 1880. Tilden Township was formed a bit later, in 1882. It was named after a person named Samuel J. Tilden. He lived from 1814 to 1886 and was a candidate for President of the United States in 1876.
Geography and Land Area
This township covers a total area of about 70.1 square miles (181.5 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. About 69.3 square miles (179.5 square kilometers) is dry land.
A smaller part of the township is covered by water. This includes about 0.8 square miles (2.0 square kilometers) of lakes, rivers, or other water bodies. This means that about 1.11% of the township's total area is water.
Population and People
In 2000, the township had 311 people living there. These people lived in 119 different homes, and 89 of these were families. The population was not very crowded, with about 4.5 people per square mile (1.7 people per square kilometer).
Most of the people in the township were White, making up about 98.07% of the population. There were also small percentages of African American, Native American, and Asian residents. About 0.64% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
Looking at the homes, about 32.8% of them had children under 18 living there. Most homes, about 63.9%, were married couples living together. Some homes (5.9%) had a female head of household without a husband present. About 21.8% of all homes were individuals living alone. This included 12.6% of homes where someone 65 years or older lived by themselves. On average, there were about 2.61 people in each home and 2.93 people in each family.
