History of Guayabo Dulce

How Puerto Rico Became Part of the U.S.

Long ago, after the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of an agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. After this, Puerto Rico became a special kind of area connected to the United States. It is called an "unincorporated territory."

Early Population Counts

In 1899, the United States government did a special count of everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. They found that 1,055 people lived in Guayabo Dulce barrio at that time.
