Guerrero is a small, countryside area, also known as a barrio. It is located in the town of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 3,406 people lived there. A community called Rafael Hernández is also part of Guerrero.

History of Guerrero

Becoming Part of the United States

After the Spanish–American War, Puerto Rico was given to the United States by Spain. This happened under the rules of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.

Early Population Count

In 1899, the United States government did a count of all the people in Puerto Rico. This count, called a census, found that 638 people lived in Guerrero barrio at that time.

Guerrero Correctional Institution

One of the biggest prisons for men in Puerto Rico, the Guerrero Correctional Institution, is located right here in Guerrero.

Guerrero Lake: A Water Reservoir

Lago Guerrero, which means Guerrero Lake, is a large water reservoir. It covers an area of 32,000 square meters. This lake was built in the 1930s. It gets its water from another lake called Guajataca Lake.
