The Gunstock River is a river about 6.4 miles (10.3 km) long. It flows through the Lakes Region in central New Hampshire, United States. This river is a tributary, which means it's a smaller stream that flows into a larger body of water. The Gunstock River flows into Lake Winnipesaukee. It is also part of the larger Merrimack River watershed. A watershed is an area of land where all the water drains into a common outlet, like a river or lake.

Where the Gunstock River Flows

The Gunstock River is found completely within the town of Gilford. It begins in the southern part of Gilford, starting west of a place called Piper Mountain. From there, it flows north.

River's Journey Through Gilford

As the Gunstock River travels, it collects water from streams on the west side of the Belknap Range. The river then moves through a wide valley in the middle of Gilford. It even flows past the town's middle and high schools!

After passing the schools, the river goes through a steep, narrow valley called a ravine. Finally, it reaches flat ground close to Lake Winnipesaukee. The Gunstock River empties into Lake Winnipesaukee at a spot called Sanders Bay. This area is near where Routes 11 and 11B meet.
