Guri Weinberg was born on August 1, 1972, in Israel. His parents were Mimi and Moshe Weinberg. His father, Moshe, was a famous wrestling coach for Israel's international team and for Hapoel Tel Aviv. He had also been the Israeli youth wrestling champion and held the adult champion title for eight years.
When Guri was just one month old, his father traveled to Munich for the 1972 Summer Olympics. Sadly, his father and ten other team members were killed in a terrorist attack. This event is known as the Munich massacre.
After her husband's death, Guri's mother, Mimi, moved with her son to the United States in 1986. They settled in Los Angeles, California. Guri went to Beverly Hills High School there.

Playing His Own Father in Munich
In 2005, when Guri was 33, the famous director Steven Spielberg offered him a special role. He was asked to play his own father, Moshe Weinberg, in the movie Munich. This historical drama was about the events that happened after the Munich massacre at the 1972 Summer Olympics, where his father was killed. The film was also based on a book called Vengeance.

Munich was nominated for several Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The New York Times even called it one of the "Best Films of the 21st Century So Far" in 2017. The movie received both praise and criticism for how it showed the historical events. Guri's own mother, Mimi, was not happy with the film. She later said she did not want people to watch it, even though her son was in it, calling it "a fantasy."
Success After Munich
After the success of Munich, Guri Weinberg became more sought after for acting roles. He shared in a 2006 interview that he had been in smaller roles before, but now he was "in demand" and getting "a ton of auditions" after Munich.
