Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, often called IPU, is a public university. It is located in Dwarka, Delhi, India. The university was once known as Indraprastha University.

History of IPU: How It Started
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University began on March 28, 1998. It was first named Indraprastha University (IPU). The Delhi Government created it as a state university.
The university was named after the ancient city of Indraprastha. This city is famous from the old Indian story, the Mahabharata. In 2001, the university changed its name. It became Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU). This new name honors Gobind Singh, who was the tenth Sikh Guru.
The University Grants Commission (India) officially recognizes IPU. This means the university meets important education standards.
How the University is Organized
The university has 14 main university schools. These are like different colleges within the university. Twelve of these schools are on the main campus in Dwarka. Two other schools, USAR and USDI, are on a newer campus in East Delhi.
The university also has four special centers. These centers focus on research. They study things like disaster management, medicines, human values, and new technologies.
