East Delhi facts for kids
East Delhi, also known as Trans Yamuna, is an important administrative district in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, India. It is located on the eastern side of the Yamuna River. To its north is North East Delhi. To the east and south, it borders parts of the Uttar Pradesh state, including Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar.
In 2001, about 1.4 million people lived in East Delhi. It covers an area of 64 square kilometers, which means it's a very crowded place, with many people living close together.
Administratively, East Delhi is divided into three main areas: Gandhi Nagar, Preet Vihar, and Shahdara. These areas help manage the district's services and local government.
People and Population
East Delhi is home to many people. According to the 2011 census, its population was about 1,707,725. To give you an idea, this is roughly the same number of people as in the entire country of The Gambia or the US state of Nebraska.
This large population makes East Delhi the 284th most populated district out of 640 districts in India. It's a very densely populated area, with about 26,683 people living in every square kilometer.
Between 2001 and 2011, the population of East Delhi grew by 16.68%. This shows that more and more people are choosing to live here. For every 1000 males, there are 883 females, which is called the sex ratio. Also, a high percentage of people in East Delhi can read and write, with a literacy rate of 88.75%.
