Guy Béart (born Guy Béhart-Hasson; July 16, 1930 – September 16, 2015) was a famous French singer and songwriter. He was known for his unique songs and performances.

Guy Béart's Early Life and Education

Guy Béart was born in Cairo, Egypt. His family was Sephardic Jewish. They moved around a lot because his father was an accountant. Guy lived in France, Greece, Mexico, and Egypt as a child.

Growing Up in Lebanon

His family settled in Lebanon when he was ten. He finished his high school studies there. By age seventeen, he earned his French baccalaureate (a high school diploma). He studied at the International College of Beirut.

Choosing Music and Engineering

Guy became very interested in music during these years. He decided to move to Paris to study music. He went to the "École nationale de musique." Besides music, he also earned a degree in engineering.

Guy Béart's Journey to Fame

In 1952, Guy's father passed away. Guy chose to work as an engineer to help his family. He studied at a famous engineering school in Paris.

Starting His Music Career

At the same time, he also studied violin and mandolin. In his free time, he wrote songs. He performed in small clubs in Paris, called cabarets. He played guitar and sang under the name "Guy Béart."

Becoming a Songwriter

One of his songs became a huge hit when another singer performed it. This made more people want his songs. He wrote for famous singers like Juliette Gréco. A well-known music producer, Jacques Canetti, helped him.

In 1994, Guy Béart received the Grand Prix de l'Académie française. This award honored his long and successful career. He continued to perform in different places. In 1999, he had a very popular five-week show at Bobino in Montparnasse. This led to a successful re-release of his live album.

In the 2000s, he performed less often. But many of his more than 300 songs are still loved by his fans.

Guy Béart passed away from a heart attack on September 16, 2015. He was 85 years old.
