About Guy Savoy

Guy Savoy was born on July 24, 1953, in a town called Nevers in France. When he was two years old, his family moved to Bourgoin-Jallieu. His father worked as a gardener, and his mother owned a small bar. Later, his mother turned her bar into a restaurant. This is where Guy first learned about cooking and the restaurant business.

Guy trained with the famous Troisgros brothers, who were also great chefs. He also worked at other fancy restaurants to gain experience. In 1980, he opened his own restaurant in Paris. This restaurant quickly became very popular. In 1985, it earned two Michelin stars. A Michelin star is a very high honor for a restaurant.

In 2002, Guy Savoy's Paris restaurant earned its third Michelin star. This is the highest number of stars a restaurant can get! For several years, from 2017 to 2020, a group called La Liste named his Paris restaurant the "Best Restaurant in the World." Guy Savoy is married to Danielle Savoy and has two children, Caroline and Franck.

Guy Savoy's Career

Many famous chefs have learned from Guy Savoy. For example, Gordon Ramsay, a very well-known chef, trained under Guy Savoy. Gordon Ramsay has called Guy Savoy his "culinary mentor," meaning he taught him a lot about cooking.

In May 2006, he opened a restaurant in Las Vegas, U.S.A., inside the Caesars Palace hotel. He also opened two small places called Brioche in Las Vegas, which sell breakfast and brunch items.

You might have heard of the Pixar movie Ratatouille. Guy Savoy actually lent his voice for the French version of the movie! He voiced the character of Horst, one of the chefs.

Guy Savoy also helps protect French food culture. He is part of a group that helped get the "gastronomic meal of the French" recognized by UNESCO. This means that the special way French people enjoy their meals is now considered an important part of the world's cultural heritage.

In 2023, there was big news for Guy Savoy's main restaurant in Paris. It was announced that it would go from having three Michelin stars to two. Even with two stars, it is still considered an excellent restaurant.
