Gyula Zsengellér (born December 27, 1915 – died March 29, 1999) was a famous Hungarian football player. He was known as a fantastic striker, meaning he was great at scoring goals. Many people remember him as a legend of Újpest FC, a well-known football club. He also played a big part in helping the Hungarian national team reach the final of the 1938 FIFA World Cup.

Playing for Clubs
Gyula Zsengellér started his football journey at Salgótarjáni TC. In 1936, he moved to Újpest FC, where he became a true star. He played for Újpest for 11 years, scoring an amazing 368 goals in 301 games. This made him the third-highest goalscorer ever in the Hungarian league.
After his time in Hungary, Zsengellér played for Italian teams like A.S. Roma and Ancona. He finished his playing career in Colombia with Deportivo Samarios between 1951 and 1952. Overall, he played 426 club games and scored 434 goals!
International Career with Hungary
Zsengellér first played for the Hungarian national team on December 2, 1936. This game was against England, and Hungary lost 6–2.
He played a total of 39 games for his country. In these games, he scored 33 goals. This makes him the eighth-highest goalscorer for the Hungarian national team of all time.
1938 FIFA World Cup
One of his most famous moments was at the 1938 FIFA World Cup in France. He was a key player for Hungary. The team made it all the way to the final match. Zsengellér was the second-highest scorer in that tournament. Only Leonidas from Brazil scored more goals than him.

He led Pezoporikos Larnaca to win the Cypriot First Division in 1954. Later, in 1976, he won the Cypriot Cup with APOEL FC. He passed away in 1999 at the age of 83.
