Härnösand (Swedish pronunciation: [hæɳøˈsanːd]) is a town in Sweden. It is the main town of Härnösand Municipality in Västernorrland County. In 2023, about 25,000 people lived there.
Härnösand is often called "the gate to the High Coast". This is because a beautiful world heritage area is just a few miles north. The town is also home to the Diocese of Härnösand, which is a church district. It is also where the County Governor lives and where the Västernorrland County Museum is located.

A Look Back in Time
Härnösand has an interesting past. On December 10, 1885, it became the first town in Sweden to have electric street lights! This happened after the Gådeå power station started working.

Härnösand is an important place for education. It is home to The National Agency for Special Needs Education and Schools. This agency helps students with special needs.
The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) also has a training program here. It's called Sida Partnership Forum.

- Bandy: The women's team of the bandy club Härnösands AIK plays in the top league. The men's team has also played there.

- Football: The football club IF Älgarna plays in Division 2 Norrland.
- Curling: Curling is very popular here. Team Anette Norberg, a famous curler, is from Härnösand. Anette has won many medals, including Olympic gold! Sweden's only curling high school is in Härnösand. It started in 1989 and has trained many talented curlers.
- Ice Hockey: The town also has an ice hockey team, AIK Hockey Härnösand. They play in Division 1 in the northern region.

Härnösand is a small town with lots of activities.
- Youth Centre: Young people often visit Kåken (Ungdomens Hus). This is a youth centre run by the municipality.
- Outdoor Activities: The town offers many outdoor activities all year.
- In winter, you can go skiing (both cross-country and downhill) and ice skating.
- In summer, you can try climbing, kayaking, and trekking.
- Smitingen Beach: Härnösand has a beach called Smitingen. Sometimes, you can even find waves good for surfing there!
- Berget Airsoft Event: Every summer, Härnösand hosts Berget. This is one of the biggest airsoft events in the world.
