Hérémence is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Hérens district in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It's known for its beautiful mountain views and important landmarks.

History of Hérémence
Hérémence was first mentioned in old records way back in 1195. At that time, it was called Aremens.
Geography and Landscape
Hérémence covers an area of about 107.6 square kilometers (41.5 square miles). A large part of this land, about 18%, is used for farming. Forests cover another 18.8% of the area. Only a small part, 1.9%, has buildings or roads, while most of the land (61.3%) is made up of mountains and other natural areas.
The town is located on the left side of two rivers, the Borgne and the Dixence. The main village of Hérémence is right where these two rivers meet. The municipality also includes the entire Dixence valley, which is a side valley off the main Rhone valley. Besides the main village, Hérémence has several smaller communities called hamlets. These include Ayer, Euseigne, Mâche, Pralong, Riod, and Cerise.
Coat of Arms
Every town has a special symbol called a coat of arms. The coat of arms for Hérémence is simple but meaningful. It shows a silver star on a red background. In official terms, this is described as Gules, a Mullet Argent.
Population and People
Hérémence has a population of about 1,321 people (as of December 2002). Over the last ten years, the number of people living here has changed a little. Some people have moved in, while others have moved away.
Most people in Hérémence speak French as their main language. About 97.5% of the population uses French. A smaller number of people speak German (1.4%) or Portuguese (0.5%).
In 2008, the population was almost evenly split between males and females. About 49.6% were male and 50.4% were female. Most of the people living in Hérémence are Swiss citizens.
