Starting in 1360, the town belonged to the lords of Wellenberg. Later, in 1608, the legal rights for the local court in Hüttlingen became separate from the Wellenbergs' control. In 1674, a man named Johann Kaspar Escher bought the rights to the village and Hüttlingen Castle. From 1694 to 1798, the city of Zurich owned Hüttlingen. They had a chief bailiff who ran the local court from the castle.
