History of Felben-Wellhausen
Ancient Roman coins have been found in the area of Felben-Wellhausen. This shows that people lived here a very long time ago.
The village of Felben was first mentioned in records in 1178. Back then, it was called Veluen. Later, in 1433, its name was written as Felwan. In 1178, a monastery (a place where monks live) called Alt St. Johann became the main landowner in the village.
From the Late Middle Ages until 1798, important decisions and legal matters for the village were handled in the nearby city of Frauenfeld.
Before the Protestant Reformation (a big change in Christianity), Felben likely had a small church or chapel since the 9th century. It belonged to the church area of Pfyn. By 1569, Felben and Wellhausen had their own Protestant church community. The local rulers of Wellenberg and the city of Frauenfeld chose the priest for this community. Catholics in Felben were part of the Catholic church area in Frauenfeld.
For a long time, most of the fields around the town were used to grow grain. Farmers used a method called the three-field system. After 1860, people started focusing more on raising animals and producing dairy products like milk and cheese. Several projects were carried out to improve the land, making it better for farming. After 1940, many new fields were used to grow sugar beets.
By 1900, other businesses started in Felben. These included embroidery (decorating fabric with stitches), a factory that made bricks, and work in sand pits.
