Haddon Township is a community located in Camden County, in the state of New Jersey. It's a place where about 15,407 people lived as of 2020. This number was a bit higher than in 2010, showing the township is growing.
Haddon Township became an official township on February 23, 1865. It was created from parts of another area called Newton Township. Over time, several other towns were formed from Haddon Township. These include Haddonfield, Collingswood, Woodlynne, Haddon Heights, Audubon, and Oaklyn. The township was named after an early settler, Elizabeth Haddon.

Exploring Haddon Township's Past
The first European settlers arrived in this area around Newton Creek in 1681. In 1701, Elizabeth Haddon, whose father owned a lot of land here, came to manage it. This land included what is now Collingswood, Haddon Township, and Haddonfield.
Saddlertown: A Historic Community
In the late 1830s, a man named Saddler, who had escaped from a plantation in Maryland, came to New Jersey with his family. He bought land from a local Quaker farmer. The area where he settled became known as Saddlertown. It was a community mainly for Black families and was an important stop on the Underground Railroad, a secret network that helped people find freedom. Today, Saddlertown is a diverse community.

The township has two separate areas called West Collingswood Heights and West Collingswood Extension. The main downtown area is known as Westmont. Other smaller communities within the township include Crystal Lake, Cuthbert, and Oakdale.
Haddon Township shares its borders with several other towns in Camden County. These include Audubon, Audubon Park, Camden, Cherry Hill (across water), Collingswood, Gloucester City, Haddonfield, Mount Ephraim, and Oaklyn.

Westmont station is a train station in downtown Haddon Township. It's part of the PATCO Speedline, which is a train system.
