Hadronyche is a group of venomous Australian funnel-web spiders. These spiders are found only in Australia. The group was first described by a scientist named L. Koch in 1873.
Funnel-web spiders are known for their strong venom. However, since 1980, no one has died from a Hadronyche spider bite. This is because a special medicine called antivenom was created.
About Hadronyche Spiders
Hadronyche spiders belong to a larger family of spiders called Australian funnel-web spiders. When they were first discovered, scientists thought they were related to "curtain web spiders." Later, in 1980, they were moved to a different group. In 2018, they were finally placed with the other Australian funnel-web spiders.
These spiders are important to Australia's ecosystem. They are also famous for their unique venom. Scientists continue to study them to learn more about their lives and their venom.
Where Hadronyche Spiders Live
All Hadronyche species live in Australia. They can be found in different states across the country. Some species live in New South Wales, others in Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, or Tasmania. Each type of Hadronyche spider usually lives in a specific area.
For example, the Hadronyche cerberea is found in New South Wales. The Hadronyche formidabilis lives in Queensland and New South Wales. This shows how diverse their habitats can be within Australia.
