Hagerman is a small community known as a hamlet located in Suffolk County, New York. It's found on the South Shore of Long Island. A hamlet is like a small village or neighborhood that doesn't have its own local government, but is part of a larger town, such as the Town of Brookhaven in this case.
Back in 1990, about 1,450 people lived in Hagerman. This community was originally built by a group called the Hagerman Land Company. They also helped create another nearby area called North Bellport, New York.
History of Hagerman
Hagerman once had its own Long Island Rail Road station. This train station was active from 1890 until 1929, helping people travel to and from the community. The railroad played an important part in connecting Hagerman to other places on Long Island.
Hagerman Today
Today, Hagerman is considered part of the East Patchogue, New York census-designated place (CDP). A CDP is an area that looks like a town or village but isn't officially incorporated as one. Even though it's part of East Patchogue for census purposes, the name 'Hagerman' is still well-known locally. For example, the Hagerman Fire Department continues to serve the area, keeping the name alive in the community.
