Hagfors is a town in Sweden. It is located in Värmland County and is the main town, or seat, of Hagfors Municipality. In 2010, about 10,125 people lived there.

Hagfors started in 1873. This was when people decided to build two large blast furnaces in the area. These furnaces were used to melt metal.

The town of Hagfors used to be famous for hosting the Swedish Rally. This was a big car rally that happened every February. It brought many visitors and helped the local economy.

Hagfors officially became a city in 1950. At that time, about 6,501 people lived there. The town's special symbol, its coat of arms, showed a tribute to the furnaces that started the town. Today, Hagfors is part of the larger Hagfors Municipality.

Weather in Hagfors

The area around Hagfors has a type of climate called a subarctic climate. This means it has cool nights, especially in September. The official weather station for Hagfors is in Gustavsfors, which is a small place about 13 kilometers (8 miles) north.

Even though it's a subarctic climate, summer days in Hagfors can be quite warm. Winters are cold, with average high temperatures just below freezing. Low temperatures are usually around -10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit).

It can get very cold in Hagfors. The coldest temperature ever recorded was -42 degrees Celsius (-44 degrees Fahrenheit)! This is very unusual for a place just north of 60 degrees latitude.

Hagfors has its own airport, Hagfors Airport. You can take flights from here to Stockholm Arlanda and Torsby airports.

Sports and Fun

  • Valsarna is a local motorcycle speedway club. They race motorcycles on a special oval track. Their home track is called Tallhult Motorstadion, located north of Hagfors. Valsarna has won the Swedish league championship twice!
