Hakeem Amir Nicks (born January 14, 1988) is a former American football player. He played as a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). Nicks played college football for the North Carolina Tar Heels. The New York Giants chose him in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft. He also played for the Indianapolis Colts.

Early Life and High School Football
Hakeem Nicks was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. He went to Independence High School (Charlotte, North Carolina). While playing football there, he was known as one of the top players in North Carolina. He was also named the Charlotte Observer Offensive Player of the Year.
High School Achievements
Nicks' high school team never lost a game. In his senior year, he was the MVP of the state championship game. He caught eight passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns in that game. During his senior year, he had 93 catches for 1,819 yards and 20 touchdowns.
College Football Career
Nicks played college football at the University of North Carolina. He quickly became a key player for the Tar Heels.
Freshman Season (2006)
As a freshman, Nicks started almost every game. He had a great game against Notre Dame. In that game, he caught six passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns. He finished his first season with 39 catches for 660 yards and four touchdowns. He set new school records for a freshman in catches and receiving yards.
Sophomore Season (2007)
In 2007, Nicks continued to shine. He had seven catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns against Virginia. Later, he caught eight passes for 114 yards against South Carolina. He ended the season with 74 catches for 958 yards and five touchdowns. This was the third-highest receiving yards in school history.
Junior Season (2008)
Nicks' junior year in 2008 was outstanding. He had two touchdowns against Rutgers. Against Boston College, he caught eight passes for 139 yards and three touchdowns. He was named a First-team All-ACC player. By the end of this season, Nicks had set 14 school records at UNC. These included career catches (181), career receiving yards (2,580), and career touchdowns (21). He also set a single-season record with 1,222 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Meineke Car Care Bowl
Nicks finished his college career in the 2008 Meineke Car Care Bowl. He caught eight passes for a bowl record of 217 yards. Three of his catches were for touchdowns. One of his catches was even considered a candidate for the "Greatest Catch of the Year."

Professional Football Career
Hakeem Nicks was considered one of the best wide receivers in the 2009 NFL draft. Many compared him to famous players like Hines Ward.
Joining the New York Giants

The New York Giants picked Nicks in the first round, as the 29th overall pick. He was the fifth wide receiver chosen that year. On August 1, 2009, Nicks signed a five-year contract with the Giants.
Rookie Season (2009)
Nicks made his first NFL catch on September 13, 2009. It was an 11-yard pass against the Washington Redskins. On October 4, he scored his first touchdown on a 54-yard pass. He then scored a touchdown in four straight games. This made him the first Giants rookie to do so since 1961. Because of this, Nicks was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month. He finished his first season with 47 catches for 790 yards and six touchdowns.
Breakout Season (2010)
In 2010, Nicks started strong with three touchdowns in the season opener. In Week 5, he tied a team record with 12 catches for 130 yards. He also caught two touchdowns in that game. He finished the year with 1,052 yards on 79 catches and 11 touchdowns.
Super Bowl Champion (2011)
The 2011 season was a big one for Nicks and the Giants. He had 76 catches for 1,192 yards and seven touchdowns. The Giants made it to the playoffs with a 9–7 record.
Playoff Performance
Nicks had an amazing performance in the 2011 playoffs.
- In the first round, he had six catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns.
- Against the Green Bay Packers, he caught seven passes for 165 yards and two more touchdowns.
- In Super Bowl XLVI against the New England Patriots, Nicks was the top receiver. He had 10 catches for 109 yards. This helped the Giants win the Super Bowl 21–17.
Nicks set franchise records for most receiving yards (444) and touchdowns (4) in a single postseason.
Later Seasons with Giants (2012-2013)
In 2012, Nicks had 53 catches for 692 yards and three touchdowns. In 2013, he did not score any touchdowns but still had 896 receiving yards. His contract with the Giants ended after the 2013 season.
Indianapolis Colts (2014)
On March 14, 2014, Nicks signed a one-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts. In his final game of the season, he reached 5,000 receiving yards in his career. He finished the year with 38 catches, 408 yards, and four touchdowns. He also scored a touchdown in the Colts' playoff win against the Denver Broncos.
Tennessee Titans (2015)
Nicks signed a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans in April 2015. However, he was released by the Titans before the season started.
Return to New York Giants (2015)
Nicks returned to the Giants in November 2015. He played in six games, catching seven passes for 54 yards.
New Orleans Saints (2016)
Nicks signed a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints in July 2016. He was waived by the Saints in August 2016.
XFL Tryout
In June 2019, Nicks tried out for the XFL.

Personal Life
Hakeem Nicks is the son of Rob Nicks Jr. and Lisa Mason. He has two brothers, Anwar and Aleef. He also has a daughter named Harmony.
In August 2022, Nicks sold his Super Bowl XLVI ring at an auction. The ring sold for $117,000. He planned to donate some of the money to charity.
